Yeah, I’m into fitness…fitness in my budget!
It can be extremely intimidating to seek help in the fitness/nutrition world. It typically costs a fortune. Luckily, I have tips, tricks and suggestions on how I’ve fit things into my budget to reach my goals and how you can do it to!
A small disclaimer, as a fitness coach, I don’t believe in crash diets or cutting out entire macronutrients. Balance is really the key to a healthier lifestyle. I still eat Velveta Mac and cheese for dinner once a week. Crash diets don’t create long term success with your fitness.
Feeling good in your body is for everyone and money shouldn’t hold us back.
Your Fitness Goals don’t need to be defined by money
Workouts on a budget
There is SO much out there! Between Apps, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook there are groups, pages and channels that post free workouts and form tips all over. The best way to pull free workouts is to choose a page or person you like and seems to prove their knowledge through coaching or certifications or an app you trust (I recommend the Nike training app or Sweat app)
Save 3-4 of their workouts to do for a few weeks (4-6) then repeat! It’s that easy!
You might not be seeing the results that you are hoping for because you are switching things up too often.
Don’t have fitness equipment? No worries!
All of these things are weights without purchasing anything! You can choose home workouts and use items like:
- soup cans
- full water bottles/jugs
- 12 packs of soda
- kitty litter/sand
- a full backpack strapped to your back or front.
Gym on a budget
If you do want a gym membership on a budget, your best bet is a planet fitness. The basic membership is $10 monthly, however there is a $40 yearly fee and a down payment when you sign up that isn’t marketed so it may sneak up on you.
If you have the monthly budget to join a YMCA or community center, you can reap extra family benefits for everyone to enjoy. However, these memberships typically run $80-100 monthly but are very worth it if you have a family that can enjoy the facility and events they host.
Even when I was paying off debt, I kept my gym membership a priority in our budget.
You can even get paid for your workouts now!
If you have an iPhone and a Fitbit or Garmin, you can sign up for the Paceline app! This is an app that tracks your activity throughout the week and if you hit 150 minutes a week, you can cash out for a gift card of your choosing. Use this link to get $5 when you sign up and connect your fitness device!
You can also sign up for Achievement. If you have a fitness device that tracks your activity than you can earn points just for moving! Use this link to get a welcome bonus!
Nutrition on a budget
Nutrition is a vast world and there is so much information out there. So bear with me as I help you navigate, not only nutrition but nutrition on a budget.
Buy frozen veggies/fruits
All the same nutritional values, but won’t sit in your fridge and rot in a few days. There is less food waste with frozen, but you are still able to hit your goals! There are regularly sales on stuff in the frozen section too.
Avoid pre-sliced fruits or veggies, pre-seasoned potatoes or frozen meals
Preprepped foods may save you a little time and labor but the price markup is insane. You are also unable to control all the ingredients which may end up adding calories to your diet. There can be lots of added sodium or different ingredients added to some of these. And pre sliced fruits and veggies are the MOST expensive way to buy fresh produce.
Buy things that won’t spoil in bulk
Bulk items can include oats, rice, protein powder, and other things like it will save you when you buy in bigger amounts. If you see things that you really like to include in your diet on sale, stock up then! Lots of things can be frozen or stored in dry bulk. Take the sale opportunity to get things you buy regularly at a discount.
Stick to the basics
the easiest way to get on top nutrition on a budget is buy the basics – eggs, rice, potatoes, cheese, bread, fruits/veggies, meats. All these things make up balanced diets. It doesn’t have to be all protein cookies and zoodles. Eat the cookie. Eat the pasta. Live your life. Do things in a balance.
Skip the supplements for better fitness
People fall into the trap of supplements costing a ton. One of the priciest pieces of fitness and nutrition can be supplements. Quality supplements come at a price but the good news is you don’t need them to see quality results.
Supplements do exactly what they say. Supplement your diet. Meaning everything in supplements can also be found and consumed in a well rounded diet. Don’t let companies lead you to believe that to see results you need to pour into supplements. Without a solid nutritional foundation and habits, those supplements won’t so anything for you anyway.
Shop for fitness coaches/diets
There are SO many diets out there so shop around. Choose one you won’t be wasting money on – one you can stick to and doesn’t have complicated rules.
Same with coaches, choose one you connect with, ask questions before hiring and ask them about what you will LEARN. Every coach should have a goal to educate you so you never need another coach and can do it on your own. Otherwise they are stealing your money
I also provide a TON of free fitness information through Instagram and Facebook.
My DM’s are always open for questions! I offer several options based on goals and always offer pay plans and budget friendly pricing. I’ve been a paycheck to paycheck worker and lived within a budget several times.
I also know what it’s like to have goals and ambition but just need some guidance. That’s why I am always open with pricing and how to work with each individual’s needs. If you are interested in coaching on a budget – apply with me here:
