In a world where blogging isn't a clear cut "job", it can be difficult to understand how to support us. Here are 11 ways to support a blogger. Hint: not all of them cost money!

Being a blogger can be so much fun. It is self-imposed deadlines, challenging me to learn more, and being as creative as I want it to be. But I can not believe I have been blogging for almost 5 years as of 2021. I have loved creating the content and figuring out all of the behind the scenes things for this blog. It has truly been so much fun.

I recently had someone ask if blogging was even worth my time. It is such an old “outdated” thing, why pour so much time into it? While some wouldn’t consider this a “blog” as much as just a website, I guess it could be considered either.

There are so many reasons why I absolutely love my blog and why I continue.

  1. My blog houses so much content that I talk about regularly, so it is nice to have it all in one spot! It helps me not have to explain things 100 times when I can just send a link to a blog post instead of going step by step all the time.
  2. I do have a decent amount of people who read my blog every day. It is anywhere from 100-400 views every day depending on my last blog post. But I have currently had just under 400,000 lifetime views on my blog.
  3. I do make a little money from my actual website itself. It contains my ads, referral links, favorite product links, and so much more of my experience.
  4. It was a journal for a big part of my debt free journey. I love being able to look back at old posts and see the excitement of paying off debt and getting a grasp on my finances. There was a lot of learning that happened between the first post and today.
  5. I absolutely love it. Blogging is something that has kept me accountable on my own financial journey, but also the messages from people who I have inspired. Or the people who want to support me in some way. I had so many followers support me during my pregnancy and wedding from our registry (completely unprompted.)
  6. I feel like my biggest calling in life is to specifically help women create the freedom and flexibility that they desire for their family. It sucks to have mom guilt no matter where you are, but through building a blog and working towards financial freedom.. I have less. I have created income at home and a home that my family loves and now I want to help others do the same.

Regularly, I get asked how people can give back because 99% of my content is totally free. I put a lot of work into creating free content and as someone working on helping people better their money, I love that I am able to keep it mostly free. Social media can literally be a full time job. In a world where blogging isn’t a clear cut job, it can be difficult to understand how to support us. I have a blog post on a few ways that I make money as a blogger, but I wanted to have entire resources for anyone who would like it in the future.

However, this is also one of my full time jobs, so I wanted to create a space that gives you options if you are looking to support me as a blogger! I am always so grateful for the love and support that I have received from my community that I have built.

So here are 11 ways to support me as a blogger (and lots of other bloggers!)

1) Check out my Budget Workbooks

I currently have 3 workbooks in my store and am always working on improving and setting up more there!

  • The Savvy Budget Workbook is designed if you have never successfully set up a budget. This walks you through every step of budgeting.
  • The Savvy Budget Tracker is just the tracking pages. This is for people who have budgets, but want to set up the tracking system to stick to the budget!
  • The Savvy Business Workbook is geared more towards tracking for small businesses. This is a great place if you have a side hustle, Etsy store, direct sales business to track your income and expenses for your business.
  • You can also bundle them for a cheaper price at the bottom of the Shop my Store page!

2) Coaching

I offer Business Budget coaching. If you have a side hustle, etsy store, direct sales business, I do 1:1 coaching that includes weekly zoom calls and voxer messaging. We can create an income and tracking plan for your business. Discuss ideas to create more income and how to use your income to benefit your business the most. Here is the link to the application for coaching. Once you fill it out, I do a few e-mails to make sure that it is the best fit for you.

3) Ko-Fi

I have set up a Ko-Fi page, where you can “Buy a creator a coffee” to support their content. It is a pretty cool set up! I love Ko-Fi because it doesn’t take any fees out of it, so if you buy a $5 coffee, the full $5 goes directly to me. Oftentimes, I go to get coffee for big work sessions or mama getaways. If this is something you are interested in, you can support me right here. Ko-fi is one of the simplest ways to support me because it doesn’t actually require you to “need” my services like my workbook or coaching, but more of just a “thanks for the content.”

4) Support me through my Amazon Storefront

Amazon is a go-to easy way to support a blogger/creator. If they have Amazon links on their page, they likely earn just a little kickback from Amazon. This is at no extra cost to you but instead comes out of Amazon’s pocket as a thank you to the creator. I have a few of my favorite items listed in my storefront, but once you are on amazon from my link, if you make any purchase, it gives me a kickback (not just for the item I suggested). I suggest that if you are already making a purchase, that you go through your favorite creator’s link to support them with a purchase you were already making!

A Few Free Ways as well..

Of course, 1-4 cost a bit of money out of pocket directly, but not all of them have to cost! If you love what I do and want to support me, here is also a list of FREE things you can do to support me.

5. Read my Blog Posts

Clearly, you are already currently doing this, but all blog posts in the future count towards this too! This is such a small thing that is actually huge for my business. Blog views play a part in my ad payment. The more views in a month, the more payment I can make from my ads. Clicking on the ads also helps increase the pay, even if you don’t make a purchase from the sidebar ads. It might seem like a small thing to you, but even just reading the posts makes what I do worth it!

I put quite a bit of time and effort into creating each and every blog post for my audience, and I am always thankful for my readers! There is USUALLY a new post every Wednesday afternoon.

6. Check Out My Podcast

I recently started a podcast and I am always so thankful for those who listen to it. I only have a few episodes recorded at the time, but it is growing. Listening to the episodes is a huge way to support me! You can find “The Savvy Sagittarius” podcast on Anchor and Spotify currently. I am working on Apple Podcasts still. There is a new episode every Monday morning!

7. Use Referral Links

Referral links are often things from different free companies that give me a little bonus for suggesting the app. I have an entire blog post of financial apps that I personally love and use and it includes a few referral links there. All of these apps usually give you and me a “welcome” bonus. Using these links to sign up helps my blog earn a little money and they usually just require a purchase you were already going to make anyway!

8. Sign up for my Newsletter

Did you know that I have a free weekly (ish) newsletter? I am trying to get better about writing and releasing the newsletter every week, but it’s a work in progress. My newsletter is the best way to get updates first, tons of free printables, and tips and tricks for your own financial journey. It usually also includes a little behind-the-scenes look at my life and a spot with all of the weekly links for blog posts, podcast episodes, and new coaching information! You can sign up for it at the bottom of this blog post!

9. Share my blog or Insta on your social media

Sharing my blog posts or social media posts is HUGE for my business. When you share my posts, you are helping me reach people that I wouldn’t otherwise be reaching. You also never know how it might impact their lives.  This is the ultimate support that just keeps going!

People don’t want to talk about how they are struggling with money, but by sharing information or posts on your pages, it can reach people who are struggling and need a little confidence boost to start budgeting. You might change someone’s life by sharing about money. I know I have.

10. Interact/Engage with my social media

Running a business primarily through social media is such a tricky thing. Instagram wants you to follow such specific rules and actions. It can be a full-time job to figure out the best way to promote yourself through social media. One big way to support your favorite content creators is to even just comment a heart or smiling emoji on things that you connect with. Commenting is better than liking something in the world of algorithms and social media gods.

If you see a post, take just a second to leave a comment. Whether it is “love this” or “YES” or an emoji. Or even commenting on something that adds to the post. All of those things help push content to more and more people! Often times I will ask a question on my posts, so answer the question!

I am obviously not asking any of you to spend hours a day interacting with social media posts, but when you have a second to like something, just throw a comment on there too! It really does mean a lot to creators and bloggers.

11. Tag a friend / Shout out the creator

This is the last big way to support bloggers. If you see a social media post that a friend needs, tag them. If you share a creators content, tag them. I LOVE seeing people tag me in their stories. And I get so giddy when people tag their friends in the comments of my posts. To me, it means that you read the content, thought about it, and actually thought about who in your life needs what I posted. It means so incredibly much to me.

Ultimately, Thank you for all your support (past, present, and future)

My followers and the community I have built have been so freaking cool. I have had the best support over the last 5 years. Truly, I can not tell you how many times I have had to stop and actually process that there are people all over the country and even the world that support me. I am constantly in awe of how many people want to follow and support a random Nebraska millennial talking about money.

One of the coolest experiences was when I was still bartending and one of my followers sat at my bar and found me. And generously tipped. I literally cried in the cooler for a minute because it was such a surreal moment for me. My coworkers were super confused. And explaining the support that I get to the people who know me in real life is sometimes hilarious and confusing all at the same time.

So, no matter what way that you support me, whether directly or just sharing all my social posts and commenting. I appreciate every single comment, message, like, share, and dollar that comes through this little hustle of mine.
